Most of my frustration with modxcms.com comes from trying to use the add-on Repository.

A browse-able category layout would be an added benefit to making the add-ons more easily found. With the current tag cloud you never know where something might be. Tag clouds are less user-friendly when they are not controlled well. If I want to find something via keyword/tag I’ll use the search box before trying to sift through a mega list of tags with (1) beside them.

Also the multiple listings for each add-on are a problem. I understand they are for the different versions, but from a "user point of view", I don’t care about the old out-dated versions. I only want the latest release of the add-on. If I need an older release, for some reason, I should be able to find that either on the author’s website or from some archive that doesn’t show in the main list. In the main list it’s simply in the way of finding another add-on.

A good example of this problem is here:
    http://modxcms.com/resource-listing.html&tags=search

The first six listings are different versions of "AjaxSearch". In total it says there are 20 listings for the "search" tag across 2 pages, In reality if you take out the multiple versions there are only 10 or 11 unique add-ons there. Only half of the results are of any real interest to the user.

Are there any plans to overhaul this section in the near future?

We agree and we’ve done something about it which will become apparent early next year. The whole marketing/support site is being overhauled. (The current repository was great with a few hundred items but is less than optimal now.)

Edit : Ooops, my post was seconds away from Ryan’s rolleyes

You’re definitely right about this and there is more than plans to overhaul this, work is already in progress on the matter for the new modxcms.com coming up for 2009 smiley

This should improve searching for addons, but not only that grin

That’s good news. Glad to know I wasn’t the only one that saw these problems.

What’s wrong with the MODx Wiki today? Is it just a temporarily glitch in the matrix...
or is it agent Smith? tongue

It would appear that it’s down and needs a reboot. Any future wiki additions or updates really should be made in our new Confluence wiki so we can better monitor and control the wiki internally.
