Since this board is apparently intended for marketing discussions, I’d like to offer my thoughts about the new MODx logo (or should I say modx?) and use of lowercase lettering.
I like the open box icon and the coloring. What I’m not so sure about is the lowercase lettering. Is the intent to change the pronunciation of "MODx"? Right now I say "MODx" as "mahd-ehks", in two syllables (I hope you don’t mind my attempt at phonetic spelling). In all lowercase, I find myself wanting to pronounce the name "mahdehks" or "mahdihks", in one syllable.
Also, I dread changing (or doubt I will change) all the directory names, file names, code comments, etc, that use the "MODx" lettering format.
What was the thought process behind the change in lettering? Have you considered all of the mentions of MODx that are not under MODx community control, such as CMS forums and editorial columns?
Keep in mind that when you scan a page, you tend to notice unique typography. Take this forum theme for example. Do your eyes more easily or readily pause at the "MODx" in the navigation breadcrumbs, or at the "modx" in the search options list?
I’ve been around companies that have changed logos before, and it’s not all that painful. But I can’t recall a logo change that also incorporated a typography change. Maybe my memory is bad.
My recommendation is to reconsider the lowercase lettering. Keep the new icon and coloring, but bring back the capital "MOD". Maybe change the color of the "x" to make it pop?
Just some stuff to think about,
Chris

In writing it will be MODx but the logo will remain as is. This was recently discussed and will be reflected in some upcoming docs.
On the language front you may pronounce Mahd ecks or some variant no matter how you slice it it is two syllables. The emphasis may be more apparently on the MOD when written as MODx but in English when you have two vowel sounds (not vowels) separated by a consonant sound you end up with a syllable at each point.
I am sure someone else who has actually studied the English language will correct any inaccuracies.

I see what you mean regarding the syllables. It’s still all two syllables, but I don’t tend toward pronouncing the "x" as an x with the all lowercase version. Kind of like "rubicks" vs "rubix" vs "RUBIx". I’d tend more toward pronouncing the second spelling exactly like the first, but would think twice about the third version, or would at least accept it when the third version was pronounced "roobee-ehks"...
See what I mean?

I wouldn’t get too hung up on pronouncing modx, MODx or modX (wrong altogether). In other languages it is very different. As long as you are saying it and using it. Go for it. Mangle it or perfect it. Make it yours.
Cheers and have fun,
