Add a page, remove a page or move a page? Edit every page to fix the menu. With MODx menus are generated dynamically.
Want to change something in the sidebar? Edit every page. With MODx, the sidebar blocks are in separate chunks that get inserted into every page. Edit it in one place, it’s changed for every page.
Moved your office? Edit every page to correct the address in the footer. With MODx, footer is in one chunk of HTML that gets inserted in every page. Edit in one place, it’s changed for every page.
Want to change your site layout? Edit every page. With MODx, make a new template and set it as the default in the site’s Configuration.
Disadvantages? ummm... can’t think of any.
Some people argue CMS are slower because pages are generated dynamically, but with its cache MODx is nearly as fast as a static website... I guess that was part of the question too
Anyway, I don’t know any company running a static website nowadays, the cost of maintenance and updating is just too high !

MODx est l'outil id
In addition one of the main advantages you customers can see on the website is the amount of time it takes for the web pages to
load through the browser. Caching certain sections of the page (header, side bar, footer) means pages load way faster in Modx
because these sections do not have to reload every time a new page is opened.
Honestly there are no advantages to static html pages

You can create dynamic interaction with the user, like in blog comments, posts and other content.
With the PHP app framework you can create applications that will generate dynamic pages, such as blogs, forums, download centers, community, chat and others.
If you just wanna do a page with no user interaction, dynamic updating and in-browser page edition, then you may just use the static html pages.

I would say it was down to how what you really need... MODx relies on your Database being up and running, if that goes down, your whole site does. If I didn’t require the advantages of a CMS I would still use MODx personally. You can still give that static look and feel to the front end user, i.e no login boxes or blogs etc yet maintain the site using an interface. Another advantage is that I can edit my site using my Ipod touch, even though it’s a bit slow, I can still do this. If it was a static page, I wouldn’t be able to login in the FTP and edit the HTML files.
