Have not been thinking lot of this, maybe it’s a bad idea, but here I go:

What about having a forum for more general questions about web development? Sure there are plenty of those on the net, but maybe it would be nice for us MODx users to be able to help eachother with general css, js, xhtml, php and other related stuff.

Sure I can post a css question in the template forum, but from what I understand the forums are for more specific MODx related support questions.

Keeping these kind of "MODx-off-topic-but-web-development-on-topic" questions out of the other forums could render the core team fewer unnecessary questions to deal with, they wouldn’t even have to read those threads.

The forum could start with a "disclaimer", stating that one could not expect an answer as quick as in other forums (or not to expect answer at all tongue).

    Bad idea?

Actually, that’s a really interesting idea. Thanks for bringing it up and it’ll definitely be put in the consideration queue. smiley

Great that you liked it! You know, my goal is to be in the core team within 10 years, I hope this little suggestion will make it easier to get into the team laugh

Just have to study some php, css, js, DOM, xml and other stuff first! And learn to write in correct English wink

I agree, I’d like to talk about this kind of thing with a bunch of people here.

I also just came looking for a general design discussion forum. There are a lot of smart, experienced folks here, and I’d much prefer to post my questions in this community than on Google Groups. What do y’all think about adding such a forum?

Makes sense to me, as although it’s not directly MODx related it will help that we all have a "tool" in common.

Here’s a more specific proposal then, based on Uncle68’s suggestion and ZAP’s comment:

                Category: General Discussions
Title: "General Web Design and Development"
Description: "(X)HTML, CSS, JS, PHP and other stuff that is not necessarily MODx related."
                Location: Just above off-topic.

(To me web design is xhtml/css, and web development is js/php, so if they are both being covered I’d like to see both words in there).
No, I don't know what OpenGeek's saying half the time either.

Good idea indeed and the quicker the better as far as I’m concerned... I’ll look forward to having a few javascript questions answered smiley
