But if the alias changes, doesn’t the new url with the new alias get called when the link is created?
if not, it really should be. What’s the point of having dynamic FURLs if they don’t change when the alias changes in the database.
I’ve never tried so I’ll have to check out the way normal urls behave when an alias is changed in the database.

I think the point was that with a permalink you are saying to other people "Use this link, it will always work". If for some reason you don’t trust your editors to leave the aliases as they are for ever more, the id number is more likely to always work.
Personally, I think it’s more important to make sure the alias always works, because it will have been search-engine indexed and will have a pagerank etc. I can state that whilst modxcms.com does it that way, it’s not the way that you have to do it with MODx.
