I tried to search on this forum for:

    reset visitor stats

and got: "Your query was not specific enough. Try using larger words, or less common phrases.". OK, so I tried:

    reset "visitor stats"

and got: "Your query was not specific enough. Try using larger words, or less common phrases.". Huh? I think you have a setting wrong, perhaps for the threshold of the number of postings that is considered too many?

Any advice on how I can find topics on how to reset the visitor stats? Thanks.

I think everyone has addressed this problem at least once smiley
There are 2 useful things, besydes:
For Firefox, the Search Favelet: go to the page, look for "Favlet MODx (drag and drop)", and drag and drop it in your bookmark toolbar. Then clicking it will load a window where you can type the search, it’s a shorthand for the google-site:modxcms/ page.
Rollyo, where you can personalize a search (and add it to your search bar in Firefox as a search engine, too!).

          Hope you find them useful.

if you get this notice: "Your query was not specific enough. Try using larger words, or less common phrases."

just hit search again and it wil do the search

OK, I gave that a try. I entered:

              reset visitor stats

I had to click on search three times. The first two times it gave the "Your query..." message. The third time it performed the search and returned zero results. However this post:

              http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php?topic=6631.msg46534;topicseen

is even titled "reset visitor stats".
