Yeah well certainly but the boatload of american TV shows I watch never cause me any trouble, how come ?

davidm, I think one of the reasons is they (hollywood) want to cater to as wide an audience as possible, the screen characters are chosen by a select few, so... that is the picture the producers are painting for you. Most shows are supposedly based in big cities, you have to travel down some back roads and visit some of the smaller towns to really get a feel for the local dialects.

Sure seems like a good explanation, even if I did hear some Texan in "Medium" for instance... This been said, there are very good shows in the US
Some channels are not "mainstream", take HBO for instance, I love what they do !
