Mac software Recommendations

I’ve recently just got hold of a Mac Mini for iPhone software development, and working on the mac is a real treat and new to me. It’s far better than windows and lots of eye candy

So far I have a basic install at the moment of OS X and Xcode could anyone give me pointers of good software to have on a Mac for development such as PHP / Html editors etc.

I recall seeing a thread months ago about mac software for developers but cannot seem to find the thread any more

I’ve since moved on from my Mac Mini to a Mac Pro and put my Windows box in the garage

Thanks David that is the exact one I was thinking about.

Yep the Mac is pretty neat its taking me a while to get used to the close button on a window being on the left side I keep going to the right.

I’m mainly stuck with Windows at the moment as I also do a lot of .NET Development but hopefully XCode and IPhone development could take over that depending on how things go I will be looking at replacing my Windows laptop for a MacBook

Btw if anyone has any suggestions for MODx type iPhone apps let me know I’ve been racking my brains for a few days thinking what I could add to the community for free.

MAMP, of course; although you can use the default apache/mysql/php installation if you want to. Personally as soon as I get my USB stick back from my boyfriend I’m going for this http://peru.nise81.com/archives/89

I think web server / mysql wise I will install IIS and MySQL on our Windows Media centre PC and map that in the Mac (once I learn how) so that I dont loose touch with Windows Based hosting

Although our first Linux Apache Hosting server is coming later this year

Yep I’ve been racking my brains too, I have some windows management apps in mind. I like the fact that I can remote manage a server / website without the bulk of a laptop or having to rely on Remote Desktop to log in check logs or change some settings.

I guess an app to manage MODx settings / users would be good on the iPhone you could use safari the browser but it will be slower on GPRS and lots of moving around.

Will keep my thinking cap on and any suggestions more than welcome.

Iphone and MODx? I would say: stats, the ability to (un)publish documents and user management


And be carefull, mac os x is addicting! I just transformed my Intel C2Q 2,4 ghz with 8gb ram pc to a vmware ESXi server because I never used it as normal pc again since I have my Macbook
