screencast solution

Which is the better screencast solution of the moment. I want a free windows XP solution which can provide avi,flex output and may be offer sound correction. Thanks for your advices.

I haven’t personally tried it (though I plan on it) but CamStudio is supposed to be the best Free WinXP one.

One the sound, my thoughts and I am not sure how this would work but is to record the SC and then record the audio after in Audacity while watching the SC so that you can control the audio.

As a former motion picture sound recordist and radio broadcaster that is worse than the mouse-like, quiet, "umm" filled dialogue that accompanies most screencasts.

37 Signals recently talked about their screencast workflow, and it involves a mixture of Mac and Windows software. Would love your commentary on that workflow Jay.

On the Mac side of the house there’s a really cool new screencast application called Screenflow, though SnapZ Pro (moderate complexity) and iShowU (super simple and cheap) are also two great commercially licensed tools. I don’t think there’s any killer solution for OS X that’s free. I’m personally particularly excited about the capabilities shown in Screenflow ... it looks to me to be like Garage Band for screencasts, complete with editing and killer effects found in Camtisa Studio.

I’ll second that on WinXP you can’t beat CamStudio and Audacity. Just make sure you use a good codec, like xvid or something.

I got Snapz Pro through MacHeist and it seemed to bog down my MacPro. I heard similar things from another friend.
