HOWTO Backup 500GB??

Hello!

I have got a problem, I need to backup 500GB this month.
So, my question is how do I do that?

Thought about buying Blue-Ray Discs (50GB á disc), but they are too expensive (50€ á disc).
Thought about buying 50+10 DVD-DL or DVD+DL discs (costs 75€ + 15€)
Or better buying a 500GB S-ATA-II Disk (160€)?

The time is also a factor that’s important, I mean burning 2,5x Blueray or 4x DVD+-DL is very time consuming..

I don’t think that >100€ is rentable for backuping 500GB! Is it?

I’ve 2TB in total, but need to backup 0.5TB now, so there’ll be more backups later next months.
Yes, those hardisks are full of 2TB important data.

Buy a cheap external firewire/sata/usb case and raw sata/pata disks. Leave the case cover off, but add the disk and copy away. Label them after duplicating your data and stick them in a padded fireproof lockbox wrapped in an antistatic bag.

I was going to suggest that - hard drives are much cheaper.

Perhaps an (older) tape streamer could be interesting as well, those might not be as cheap as harddrives but will offer more reliability, especially if you need to backup this amounts often.

how expensive are the largest tape streamer tapes?

hard drives are pretty cheap now, i have over one terabyte

I wouldn’t know, I do know a lot of businesses use them because they’re reliable and I suppose the tapes aren’t too expensive - but do go up to the multiple terabytes.
