Man, synchronicity! I ran across this site yesterday Susan, while researching JSON/PHP serialization. I’ll be spending more time researching the MyBic work over the next week or so.
In fact, on a note related to that second link, I’ve added two new methods to all xPDO objects, toJSON() and fromJSON() so we can serialize any xPDO object to or from JSON directly. In other words, send an xPDO object or collection of objects to the client, let the client manipulate the object, and then post back the raw JSON to an Ajax service handler that simply converts the JSON back into my xPDO object and save the changes. It will work with the C extension (mod_json) which is slated to become a standard PHP extension in the near future, and will fall back to the PEAR Service_JSON class if the extension is not available (though the extension is in the neighborhood of 85x faster and would be recommended for any real production AJAX work done this way).
