There’s a freebie plug-in for photoshop called ripleyer, that creates line pattern’s on a layer.
Using white and black stripes, and then adjusting the layer properties for the stripe layer it will work to stripe any color layer that is beneath in the layer order, adjusting the stripe layer’s property to overlay, multiply, whatever you like. Creating a clipping group will only stripe the layer directly beneath the ripleyer, leaving everything else unstriped, for some added effects.

This technique looks great for striping Header text, instead of a background, using a CSS span and a semi-transparent image pattern to transform actual html text.
Very useful...
