Not recommended hosting

I’ve been using Aventurehosting for a couple of years now, and have found their shared hosting prices reasonable, the service adequate and their support prompt and usually quite helpful. However...

1. No PHP 5 in view or even being considered.

2. No phpsuexec or similar feature in view or even being considered.

3. SMF rc versions banned because of the Firefox 1.5 bug

4. Now I just found out that php mail() calls will not leave the server; you need to use smtp functions.

While I can understand that these decisions make life easier for their support team, I’m not paying for hosting to make things easy for them. And while their shared hosting prices aren’t too bad, there are other cheaper hosting companies if price is your main consideration.

Thanks for the honest review Susan. It sounds like that host won’t be very MODx friendly as we head toward the 1.0 era.

Well, some time ago they banned the *nuke variants for "security reasons", but I didn’t care because I didn’t use any of the *nuke variants. They banned all chat scripts for "performance reasons" but I didn’t care because I don’t particularly want to run chat scripts...
