It would be interesting to know the various occupations of people using modX.

I have a background in programming from a career I had before going into advertising. In advertising I developed a passion for design, then Mac’s and design, then mac’s, design and web development using the the skills I acquired as a programmer when I first starting working.

Except for the beginning of my career, I’ve always owned my own business. At the minute I own several types of business, mainly web based, but I also have interests in office furniture accessory design and manufacturing.

Right now though, I would best describe myself as a coder and developer

I’m probably going to be the odd one out as I don’t work in information technology industry (altough was a hardware engineer for 8.5 years).

I’m currently an Emergency Management Tutor, Instructional Designer (write national training and examination material) and Helicopter pilot student

Somewhere amoung the spare time I’m also the webmaster for the company below.

Well, I’m a Web Content Manager by day and a web developer/coder by night

Started off doing small-scale websites to finance myself through University and did vast amounts of non-web programming as part of my engineering course, mainly in VB and Matlab.

My year out at University was spent at Rolls-Royce where I ended up being involved in their corporate Intranet rollout which really gave me the passion to get more involved in the web side of programming. When I finished, I dabbled in Perl for about a year and then decided to plough into web coding as a pastime - been programming PHP about a year now.

Now, I work in Local Government in the UK so get slave-driven during the day Joking aside, I love being involved in both content management/website development.

I don’t think I’d make it as a full-on web designer though, I never have got past the colour picker in Photoshop!!

I would best describe myself as an entrepreneur by nature and training, and a self-taught designer by passion - with recurring wishes to also become a self-taught coder (but I have so many interrest areas that this last bit is hard to achieve !).

The reason I am in this business and not something else is that I find the combination of art and technique a fascinating aspect of web design... not to mention the human interaction and the social value of the web as a communication and knowledge sharing tool.

I work in an intesive care unit as a Registered Nurse.

My person is still student at a german university of cooperative education. Half of my time I’m studying, the other half I’m working for the right now biggest supplier of telecommunications technology (guess which one, french headquarter, was a lot in the news the last week). There I am currently working on my diploma-thesis about communinacition technology, fiber to the home and next generations.
Though I am studying information technology I also learned a lot of programming languages, software engineering stuff and other more or less usefull stuff. The web is my passion, a little bit. Writing some lines of code calms me down sometimes. I think of myself more as a "junior dev.", but a designer I think I never will be...
