Safari Web Developer Tools

For all my fellow Mac enthusiasts, PimpMySafari has a few Safari plugins for adding functionality to your browser. I have always had a slight (very slight) partiality to safari, but I also loved FireFox for its WebDev plugin. Their list of WebDev stuff is here: http://pimpmysafari.com/plugins/?c=Web+development

I have found loads of use for SafariSource which color codes Safari’s view source window (tré handy), and WebDevAdditions which adds all the functions of the FireFox WebDev plugin to Safari.

I also wanted to share this Mac OS X tip, in case you didn’t know:
One of the things I didn’t like in Safari is that the keyboard shortcut to view a pages source is command + option + U. I think the FireFox way of simply command + U is much better (because it’s one handed !) In Mac OS X, you can change the keybord shortcuts for any application in the System Preferences. Open your system preferences. Under "Hardware", select "Keybord & Mouse". Then select "Keyboard Shortcuts" and press the "+" button at the bottom. I selected Safari from the dropdown menu, then in Menu Title I wrote "View Source", and for the Keyboard shorcut, when the input box was selected, i pressed "command+U", then clicked "Add". I also added the shortcut command+shift+U for "Block level elements" which is part of the WebDevAdditions package!

The ability to view source in SubEthaEdit provided me with as much excitement as I’ve had in six months! Great stuff, thank you, SD!

OpenGeek provided me with a great website in the chatrooms. It’s a nice tool to test your site on Safari without owning a Mac. Give it a spin.

That Safari test site will be handy as I don’t have an access to a Mac, Thanks! Anyone know these kind of services for other browsers? Maybe older versions of some browsers etc? Here you can find older IE browsers as standalone versions..

That is definitely one useful site! Just tested my works site and, phew, it worked!!

I did know of a website once that did various other browsers, can’t for the life of me think what it was but I’ll try and dig it out if I’ve got it saved anywhere.

Looks nice, but when I tried it, I got over an hour queue time and because of that, it won’t use most browsers.. I just got Firefox and IE6..
