I’ve tried the beta and I don’t see Windows making headway. Linux distros like SuSE or Ubuntu are closer and closer to making Linux sexy and easy enough to make the switch, Vista has too few improvements if you compare to the competition’s progress. It’s even laughable when you see OS X, a world ahead of Vista...
If people weren’t locked by habits, I’d predict a massive switch... but of course, people are used to Windows like they’re used to IE... but will that last forever ? Maybe not...

It’s also what you get when you buy a new computer. Most people don’t think of Windows as an option; it’s like wheels on a car. How many people even think about them? They just come with the car. Macs come with OS X, PCs come with Windows, and only the same kind of wierdos who would put oversized back wheels on their cars would put that Linux thing on their computer.

I do plan on a 4x4 with the highest suspension and the biggest wheels it will take, for hanging out on the back roads in the desert and mountains. I don’t drive, but my partner does. I think a double cab, to accomodate his kid and his big red dog. He’s partial to Land Rovers, but they are hard to get here.
