Wendy : you’re right, one can do that with MODx. The style switcher already exist, a template switcher shouldn’t be that hard to do... is it ?

I made a plug-in that stores the user’s choice of template in a cookie, it should be around here somewhere.

With the three lines setting and checking the cookie value commented out, it’s a single-page template switcher, uncomment the three lines and it’s a site-wide switcher.
Have fun adjusting the CSS for all your templates, make sure they work on IE as well as all the real browsers
