[solved] IE links opening in Firefox ?!

Hi all,

I was wondering if anybody has ever come across this little series of problems :

1. When I open IE6 and type a website into the address bar - it opens in Firefox.
2. Open IE6 and click a link in my bookmarks - it opens in Firefox.
3. As Google is my home page, running a search returns in IE6. Click a search item, opens in IE6.

Now, either I missed a MS critical update where they finally submitted defeat to standards-compliant browsers or this is just plain weird. The only problem for me is cross-checking page designs in all the common browsers, it’s proving quite difficult to test in IE6 with this little bug.

Apart from normal auto-updates for the browsers, my system hasn’t changed at all in terms of browsers since it was last working (running WinXp Home sp2, browsers = firefox, ie6, opera, netscape)

All is okay now. Realised that a while back I’d downloaded a copy of the standalone IE7 beta - it appears that this standalone version can cause a problem within the windows registry.

If anybody ever gets this problem then the following reg-fix will correct the problem:

1. Create a new text file on your desktop.
2. Paste the following information into the file and save as ie7.reg:



3. Close the file and then run (double-click the file)

Bear in mind that if you have to run the standalone IE7 again then you may have to re-apply this fix.
