Microsoft seems unable to develop a decent browser, I wouldn’t be surprised if this were true...
A good thing for M$ but not necessarily a good one for Opera (I’d rather have Google buy them out...). Let’s hope they won’t turn Opera into a rotten fruit... Opera 8 is nice, so is their M2 email client...

If they did this, it would only be for the Opera mobile phone browser technology. Most likely they would drop the PC browser.
hmmm, I really wonder if they would drop the browser side too. Considerign how many bugs and security issues that IE has it might make sense to buy soemthign rather than try to rebuild ... aka Apple with NEXT.
However, this might jsut be a rumor since both sides are denying this.

Microsoft probably wants to remove anything resembleing WC3 standards compliance from as many browsers as they can aquire to get Interweb Exploder out of the title of "Least Compliant Browser EVER!!!" and "Least innovative product of the year" for the last 7 years! LOL

And don’t forget that Microsoft isn’t really interested in a "browser". They want an application client, and they’ve been trying for years now to work into a remote application subscription model. You won’t buy a copy of Office, you’ll subscribe to a service. So they would really rather see the Internet as we know it go away; in fact they had MSN all ready to take on AOL and CompuServe and ignore the Internet altogether, back 10 - 12 years ago. I was working for the Imagination Network, a gaming network originally built up by Sierra Online, and they had the same blind spot where the Internet was concerned. They also were kissing up to MS, totally believing that their client was going to be bundled with Windows 95. As usual, MS just sucked up anything interesting then dropped them altogether. IE was strictly an afterthought, when the Internet took off and MSN was forced to become simply another portal into the Web.
