That is indeed interesting. I just got done chatting with one of my friends who’s part of the initial "in crowd" and nothing has started yet. He just got done speaking at the PHP conference, so he definitely has some insight, and he works for one of the listed "collaboration companies who’ve joined so far". It’s pretty much a group effort to collaborate at this point, I think.

I hope it can accomplish something. I’ve been reading up on Ruby on Rails, and I worked with some JSP/Java frameworks a few years ago, and such things can be very nice.

Unfortunately the cheap hosting companies only have the version 4 PHP available, so that’s pretty much what "everybody" is stuck with. I would love to go play on Ruby’s rails!

It’s mostly just a matter of organization on the part of the language developer, and a solid body of default libraries, which again goes back to organization on the part of the language developer!

And it is true, PHP as a language is rather disorganized. There is no consistancy in parameter order, for example, some string manipulation functions work "needle, haystack" while others work "haystack, needle".

The thing about PHP is that it’s pervasive. Ruby, while cool, is a niche product at best, found only at a few hosts. I’m also willing to be that 2006 becomes the year of PHP5, where it starts showing up at many shared hosting providers.I know for example that plessk 8 will ship with php5. I like the looks of the extra FTP functionality; we could make a killer installer with that!

I’ve played around with sockets trying to come up with a mini-ftp client but without much luck so far.

Susan... have you played with the kickstart installer in tattoo-assets in subversion... very cool stuff I think you’ll enjoy.

No...I dumped my existing svn (Eclipse) while re-organizing my computer (some women just rearrange the living room furniture), and apparently have the login info on the Big Mac, which is down at the moment due to video problems. So I’m going to have to take the time to get the Big Mac working again, and find the svn info so I can reconfigure the Eclipse svn plugin. <sigh> wheels inside of wheels...

scottwell post about ruby on rails i find it later in web and look the doc, finaly i find a server to provide at low cost,but i want to know if is a good plataform or not, i think abuot i read is good and have the oportunity to work full proyects and updates in local computer realy i love the way to conect whith databases but my cuestion is php or ruby on rails?
