Some of you may recall my earlier post about my youngest son locating me through my activity here. Well, he sent my contact info to my oldest son, who apparently thinks himself something of a computer whiz. He just enlightened me with this little gem:
Linux was a group of programmers from Microsoft that decided to go at it on their own. At first it was free with open source codes until Red Hat and a few others decided to make money off of it.
I’m still trying to stop laughing enough to decide if I want to disown him or not.
Don’t know if I should cry or laugh. Very funny tough

I just found out that he advised my youngest (30 this year) to put a piece of cardboard between the CPU and the power supply; the original 420W power supply blew so he is using an old 120W. It "works just fine". <sigh>

I could tell a story or two along those lines, but I won’t. Too depressing. Suffice it to say that there is a reason why I’m living half-way around the world, and the kids had trouble tracking me down. All the stuff they are telling me about their lives and the last 10 years, I may just get myself a different email address and disappear again. Jail, kids all over the place, drugs, messy divorces, everything that they learned was Not A Good Thing To Do, but had to learn the hard way. Experience is a hard school, but a fool will learn by no other.
Turns out the blocking the air flow wasn’t such a bad thing; he did have a big fan mounted behind the processor, and the power supply is running much cooler with the hot air off the processor being pulled out by the other fan instead of through the power supply exhaust. So not totally clueless after all.
It’s good that you now face rather than escape reality, keep your current email address.
