how many rolls of foil did it take?
Not as many as you would think.
I bought two super heavy duty foils at 75sq feet to do the bigger, more-prone-to-ripping surfaces. Then we used 10 of the $1.87 specials at the local grocer (75sq ft.)
All in all, I spent 25 dollars and still had two and a half rolls left in the end.
How long did it take? Definitely a great prank!!
I used to work in a big parking lot at the University when I was a student. Back then, the VW bug only came in a few colors. We’d find two identical ones that were far apart in the lot and swap them. Three of four guys could pick them up by the back bumper and wheel them around. When the people tried to leave, they couldn’t figure out why their keys wouldn’t work. They’d come to us for help and we’d say, "are you sure that’s where you parked?" Eventually, we’d point them to their car and say, "could that be yours?" They’d say, "I’m sure I didn’t park there." We’d say, "well, you might be confused, just try that one." Eventually, they would and then they’d drive out with a truly sheepish and confused look on their faces.
The best VW prank I know, though, was when they first came out, a guy in my neighborhood was constantly bragging about the great mileage he was going to get. When the car arrived, some of the neighbors got together and started putting gas in the car every night. They guy was getting about 150 MPG. After a month or so, they stopped. A little while later, the guy took the car back to the dealer and said something was wrong with it because it was only getting about 30 MPG instead of the 150 it was getting before.
Which reminds me, some friends and I once drove a VW most of the way across South Dakota in the middle of the night on an empty gas tank by stopping at every little town, going to the closed gas stations, and draining what was left in each gas hose into the tank.
I remember my first ride in a VW bug. I must have been about 5 and I thought it was the coolest car ever. I was so upset when my mom’s friend dropped us off at home. I thought it was the only time I’d get a ride in one.
