Hi I have a site recently launched on a server that I am not happy with and am having intermittent results with some people reporting failed page loads and 404 errors. I have pinged the server and it is showing me lots of "Packets lost" values - what could be causing this? Anything to do with MODx or the way the site is built or is it all to do with the server the site is on? I can’t see why the site would be making this problem, seems to me to be the poor hosting - even when using the manage the site would sometimes be up and then be down...

    Any ideas gratefully received!

Any tips on how to analyse the server and show to the client that its the server that is causing all these issues???

    Cheers,

The ping showing "packets lost" is all you need. That isn’t even touching MODx or the Apache web server. A ping is answered directly by the server. As to where the packets are getting lost, that’s another matter. It may be a local ISP at fault or some other intermediary node; try traceroute or tracert or pingpath, depending on your operating system.
