    Hi Folks,
Well after a couple of years building sites with this great tool I get to thinking when a new client points to a certain site in my portfolio and says "I want one just like that!" - now the site is a modX version of a top selling template on themeforest, (link - http://www.globalbatteryregeneration.com )and it took me bloody ages to get it all functioning/looking good. So I rego a domain name and set up an account on my server space and in cpanel make a database ready to hook modx into and install modx v1.3, but wait a minute, I wanna save a whole bunch of copy & pasting so I download the the sql file from the original site using myphpadmin, lose the top few lines from the sql file telling it to create a new database and make a second database with cpanel in the new clients site - again using myphpadmin, import the downloaded sql file into this second database and change the modx config file to point to the second database - and BINGO there it is, chunks/snippets/forms/blog/breadcrumbs....well you get the picture, all I need to do now is upload the assts/templates folder and I can have the same site functionality and just change the css and point to a different/new file and edit the content smiley - apologies to any php/sql guru’s out there reading this and rolling their eyes thinking "it only took took this guy TWO YEARS to figure this out!?!" but I’m a design/css/html bod (which is why I use modx eh!)
So, have I missed something? it all seemed too easy - will there be a security issue ,database problems down the line? otherwise I think the word ’epiphany’ sums it up as this could save me hours in the future.
    Best Regards AL.

Hi X Theme, the website looks very professional, my compliment. You can also download the database directly from MODx Manager, if you go to Tools -> Backup. In this way you don’t have to go in myphpadmin and you can also backup the website regurarly...

Hi microcipcip, many thanks for your compliment. So if I use the ’back-up’ option can I then upload the file to another modx installation and take advantage of the pre-built functions (chunks/snippets etc.) - Regards AL.

Exactly! It will update snippets/chunks/plugin and resources. I did it few times.

OK - can I upload the downloaded backup sql file from within modX or will I need myphpadmin to do this? AL

I think you need myphpadmin for the upload. I don’t know if there is another way

Unless you have installed the BkupMODx application/module, in which case you can import it from there.
