I’ve read different posts about transferring a MODx site from local to remote servers. Some mention that you should run the install after copying the MODx files and database. Is it necessary to run the install and if so why?

What I’ve done is simply copy a .gz of my MODx site to the remote server, extracted it, and then copied the database from local to remote via MODx>tools>backup and phpMyAdmin. next I’ve altered the config.inc.php to reflect the new database setup.
Both the site and the MODx manager seem to be running perfectly and seeing as all settings are saved in the database I can’t see the necessity of running the install procedure again at this point. Can some wise MODx guru please clarify?

Thanks Sharkbait, seems the answer is that its not necessary, but is recommended to run the install/upgrade.
