This is awesome. I did it.

I altered my chunk to include the new TV’s.
      {{leftcontent}}
      <div class="lefttop">[*leftcontentheading*]</div>
      <div class="leftcontent">[*leftcontent*]</div>
      <br />

And the two new TV’s I created:
      [*leftcontentheading*]
      [*leftcontent*]

I just set up my new site template with a single TV in the sidebar part of the template. The TV has six checkboxes indicating chunks, and a default of @INHERIT. Now I can check off the boxes to specify which blocks of content I want in my sidebars in the top-level documents, and their children inherit that selection. They all get the "SearchBlock" chunk, and each section gets its own sub menu. Makes it so easy to deal with variable content.

The possibilities seem pretty astounding. I’m of pretty average skills really, and with assistance I’ve managed to learn ’stuff’ in a few days that I would never have learned using the CMS I used formerly via work.

That job is over now so I can focus purely on MODx, and my HTML/CSS and design skills.

I can now use a CMS where I have complete control over my work and how it looks. I’m so excited by the prospects and the learning path ahead.

Thanks again Susan I really appreciate your help and assistance.

What would be the best technique to set up the letfbox that is on the home page on all three pages of the site I am playing with?

If you want it on all three pages, use a chunk in the template. If you want it to be different for each section of the site, use a TV with @INHERIT binding and set it with the chunk you want in each parent document.

The problem with TVs is that they don’t nest well. For example, a TV to get a chunk that has another TV probably won’t work.

If you want to have nested TVs, you need to use a snippet and get the TV value for output. You can even emulate the @INHERIT behavior by getting the current document’s parent’s ID and using that to get the TV value for the parent in the snippet. You can use a TV to do this as well with the @EVAL binding and the PHP code to get the other TV’s value.

I used a new chunk in the template called {{lastestnews}} to add it to all three pages.

I only use two column layouts atm, I don’t like three column layouts. I think I can visualise how to best replicate this site I did (Click Here) if I was to recreate it in MODx.

I repeat info in the left column to link to other pages of the site as secondary navigations options.

But, for example, I don’t have the box/link to photos on the photo page: (Click Here)

Or videos on the video page: (Click Here).

So I’m trying to get my head around stuff like that. I don’t have any sites to do atm so I’m learning as much as I can between jobs. Sometime in the future if I’m a lot more comfortable using MODx and I get work I’ll use it to set up the site.

Each of the templates on my site have their own page; you can log in to my manager and see exactly how they are set up. You can view the resources and elements, although you can’t change anything.

                    Thanks Susan.

EDIT: Oops I got sidetracked...and installed Ecwid to a page, registered an account and added a new category.

                    That was fun.

I think I already asked but I don’t quite get it.

Say I have the chunk for Latest News set up, and it’s on all pages in the left column. Can I now create a template variable that will make it so that when I add or edit the Latest News via that template variable, it will update on all pages?

                      Chunk
                      <div class="lefttop">Latest News</div>
<div class="leftcontent"><p>Read all the Latest News about nothing <a href="http://zelky.com.au/modx/index.php?id=48">here.</a></p></div>

I can’t get my head around how to set up a template variable to do that?

I set up TV’s for a left box but I would need to edit the content on each page with those (below).

                      [*leftcontent*]
                      Caption: leftcontent
Description: RTE for the left content entries
                      Input Type: Rich Text

                      [*leftcontentheading*]
                      Caption: leftcontentheading
Description: RTE for the left content heading
                      Input Type: Rich Text

                      Chunk
                      <div class="lefttop">[*leftcontentheading*]</div>
                      <div class="leftcontent">[*leftcontent*]</div>

Thanks for all the advice already. I got online store going with Ecwid last night, and tinkered with it today, and can confidently say I could run an online store with it from tomorrow. I’ve never managed to get this far with any other CMS. Let alone in such a short time.
