Need help transferring a site...

So here’s my situation. A client of mine has a site built with modx and we are wanting to move it from their current hosting service to my hosting service. We have full access to the manager panel. We have control of the domain name as well. Trouble is, we do NOT have access to the current hosted space (ftp server) where it resides.

So, I’m searching for ways to transfer the site to our new hosting, short of a new modx install, and recreating the pages one by one.

I’ve found the thread below which appears to offer one solution. However, it’s a bit old, and I’m worried about it being out-of-date. Does anyone have any other suggestions regarding how I might go about moving this site?

My thanks in advance, any input is tremendously appreciated!

Hi ZimCreative

You can easly download the database from Tools -> Backup. Than maybe you can copy css, images and so on, that should be on assets/templates/nametemplate with www.httrack.com and then install all the required plugins in the new installation.

Not sure...just an idea.

I think this will do what you need: http://modxcms.com/extras/package/?package=46. IIRC, itcreates a .ZIP file containing all the files and a dump of the DB.

Thanks BobRay, the trouble is, I don’t have access FTP access to this site. Only modX manager access. So how do I upload this program to the site that I want to backup without FTP access?

If your site has PHP with zip enabled, upload the zipped package to a directory with write permissions (usually the assets/files is writable), unzip it in place, and then edit its configuration to point to its new location.
