I am often sorry. Because we are necessary for the making of the document, please teach it.

    • Resource(s) Tree
    • Document(s) Tree
    • Page(s) Tree
    • Site Tree
    • (other)

    Please teach it one more.
Must we call "Document/Page" displayed in the tree of the management screen as "Resource" ?
I think that the word called the "Resource" mean all document/program parts in MODx. Then, i think that "Document/Page" displayed in the tree of the management screen is DocumentResource/PageResource, and "Element" is "ElementResource".
When I omit it, i call its as "Document/Page" and "Element".
    Is my recognition wrong?

    Best regards.
    • Resources should be the things that are requested by the browser, as in URL = Universal Resource Locator. This would include resources listed in the resource tree and any external files requested in a template or content, such as css files, js files or images.

Templates, snippets, chunks and the rest are not web resources in the proper meaning of being requested by the browser; so these are now called Elements since they are elements used internally by MODx to generate the final web page that gets sent to the server.

I think many will still refer to "documents" to mean the individual resources that get edited and supply the main content for the final web page, and the resource tree is still often called the document tree.

        I understood very well.

The word of "Resource" is the terms which WEB rather than SYSTEM. (I see)
In MODx, CSS/JavaScript/WebLink/Image are possible in Resource, then i hesitated in calling it a document.

I want to call the tree of the management screen "ResourceTree" or "DocumentTree" in future too.

Thank you so much, sottwell. smiley

I love it when people ask about MODx terms. When people use the correct terms for things, it makes it a whole lot easier to answer their questions and avoid misunderstandings.

Resource Tree is probably most correct and will help if you move to MODx Revolution where there is a Resource Tree, an Element Tree, and a File Tree. You will see "Document Tree" for a while in older documentation, but it is no longer accurate.

Some Resources are Documents, some are not (e.g. Weblinks).

I try not to use the word "page" except to refer to what the user sees in the front end of the site.

I felt that word of Resource was the terms which foresaw MODx-Revolution slightly. I think that the function to show ElementTree or ElementList to the tree of the management screen is a good idea. If Template/Chunk/Snippet coexist to ResourceTree, it may be better (It already come true in Revo?).

I should have said Resource Tree instead of Resources Tree, if you want to be absolutely correct. wink

                    Revolution model is ...

                    Site Tree
                    + Resource Tree
                    + Element Tree
                    + etc..

"Site Tree" and "Resource Tree" have near meaning that fixed its eyes on the future.
"Site Tree" : word to show place on the management screen.
"Resource Tree" : word to show volume of tree on the management screen.
