I just switched my site over from a test site to a live site. (I did this by changing the domain on the test site to be the live site and updated the DNS for the new IP.)

Some of aliased pages aren’t working when you click on them -- it always loads my home page (which it seems to do for any 404). Other aliased pages work just fine. (It seems to work in firefox on my pc but not in IE, but I’m thinking that may just be a fluke.) The aliases always show up in the page but when you click on them, you get the home page.

    Works:
    http://www.digecor.com/products-and-services/portable-ife/digeplayer-xt/moviestv.html

    Doesn’t work (loads home page):
    http://www.digecor.com/products-and-services/portable-ife/digeplayer-l-series/movies-tv.html

I checked the Friendly URL settings in the config and they are all set to "Yes".

    Any ideas?

    C.

Using e404logger module, I have verified that the page IS found for Firefox and IS NOT found for IE. When I compare URLs in each browser, they are identical.

Thats a very nice looking site you have there.

I have just checked and it looks like your rewrite rules .htaccess file is not setup and the site is just running on the server redirecting the custom error page 404 to /index.php

Is your site search broken as well or just not fully configured?

        Thanks Aaron

I’ve been stuck fighting this alias/friendly url issue and haven’t had a chance to look at the other site issues since the conversion. I’ll add search to the list of things to fix. smiley

I do have rewrite rules going in .htaccess (I think). It is weird that some pages work fine and others don’t. The left navigation works fine in the XT and 5500 pages and doesn’t work in the L series and XLP pages. They are almost copies of each other. The links use [(base_url)][~85~] style addressing.

Do you see anything I’m missing?

          Here is my .htaccess:

          #php_flag register_globals Off
          #AddDefaultCharset utf-8
          #php_value date.timezone Europe/Moscow

          Options +FollowSymlinks
          RewriteEngine On
          RewriteBase /

          # Rewrite some old digecor landing pages that the redirect can't be done in modx
          RewriteRule ^lp_l72.html$ index.php?id=89 [NC,R=301]
          RewriteRule ^lcd-monitors.html$ index.php?id=91 [NC,R=301]
          RewriteRule ^l7.html$ index.php?id=90 [NC,R=301]

          # Fix Apache internal dummy connections from breaking [(site_url)] cache
          RewriteCond %{HTTP_USER_AGENT} ^.*internal\ dummy\ connection.*$ [NC]
          RewriteRule .* - [F,L]

          # Rewrite domain.com -> www.domain.com -- used with SEO Strict URLs plugin
          #RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} .
          #RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} !^www\.example\.com [NC]
          #RewriteRule (.*) http://www.example.com/$1 [R=301,L]

          # Exclude /assets and /manager directories from rewrite rules
          RewriteRule ^(manager|assets) - [L]

          # For Friendly URLs
          RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
          RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
          RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

          # Reduce server overhead by enabling output compression if supported.
          #php_flag zlib.output_compression On
          #php_value zlib.output_compression_level 5

Ok, this is dumb of me. I finally turned off the aliases and the problem continued so it wasn’t the friendly urls or the aliases. The pages that were showing up as 404, not found, were not published. I had duplicated the pages from others and didn’t notice that it was setting them as unpublished whereas a new page is set as published (from my experience). The difference between the grey used to indicate an unpublished resource and the grey used to indicate not a menu item is so subtle that I didn’t notice (in the manager).

I’m still confused my firefox would see them and IE wouldn’t. Has to do with caching on my browsers, I’m sure.

Were you logged into the manager in Firefox? Unpublished pages are visible if you are logged in.
