I want to develop the site on my local PC and then move the database to the server.

This causes two issues, both in the systems settings table.
    1. the File base path, File Browser URL and File Manager path are all different between my local PC and the server
    2. so far i can’t get Friendly URLs to work on my local PC so i turn them off

So i backup the database except for the system settings table and then restore the database to the server.

The seems to work but does anyone see anything wrong with it?

Also, Is there a better workflow or another way to do this.

    Thank you,
    Steve

Possibly your trouble with FURLS in the local install are because mod_rewrite is disabled by default in XAMPP.

Most of us do the transfer and then an upgrade install on the remote site, which usually straightens out the system settings. If not, they are easy to correct in Tools | Configuration.

The danger of your method is that if you update your local install with a new version of MODx that has new system settings, changed values in the system settings table, or a different structure for the system settings table, those changes won’t make it to your remote install.

        Thank you BobRay!!

Thanks to you i found my Friendly URL problem - the RewriteBase was set incorrectly in my .htaccess file.

Can you elaborate on your statement below about the upgrade install part? Do i have to copy up an install directory to the server and reinstall each time?

Yes, I’m afraid you would need the install directory.

I should have mentioned that once the site is fully designed and installed on the remote site, I tend to do the work on the remote site just make backups on the local drive so the process you use doesn’t happen very often -- only for major changes like Evo -> Revo.
