    Hi! I’m trying to update my Revo version with SVN

    http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/revolution/Using+MODx+Revolution+from+SVN

    2 questions:

    * http://svn.modxcms.com/svn/tattoo/tattoo/branches/2.0/ (bleeding-edge)
    * http://svn.modxcms.com/svn/tattoo/tattoo/branches/revolution/ (stable)

    In the "stable" version I’ve all updates that will be done to files for problems.... or is it only the "bleedig" the on working version?

    If this is the first time you are building from SVN, copy the file build.config.sample.php to build.config.php and edit the properties to point at a valid database with proper credentials. NOTE that this database does not have to contain anything; the build script just needs to be able to make a connection to a MySQL database.

    I can’t find the build.config.php file .... where Can I find this file??? (on Modx_revo folder) or SVN folder??

    Can you help me??

    Thanks

      The bleeding edge version is where new development and testing occurs, this is the latest and greatest code base but could contain bugs etc. while testing is carried out. At certain points in time, when deemed stable enough by the core devs the updates added to this branch are committed to the stable branch bringing this up to the next stable release version, so stable is nearly always behind the bleeding edge.

      If your main interest is in site development then I’d use the stable branch, if its in the development of revo itself then you need to use the bleeding edge. I use both of these branches for instance depending on what I’m doing at the time.

      If you look in the ’_build’ directory of your revo install you’ll see a file named ’build.config.sample.php’, copy this into a file named ’build.config.php’ and edit in your database params, i.e you create this file yourself, it doesn’t exist in SVN.
        Use MODx, or the cat gets it!

        In my revo installation I see:

        assets
        connectors
        core
        manager

        folders

        How Can I update my files (instelled using setup) with SVN version??

        Thanks

          This doesn’t look like an SVN checkout to me, you should have the ’_build’ and ’setup’ directories. If you’ve installed from a zip file you can’t convert it to an SVN area, you need to checkout the repo paths above as per the docs. If it is in fact an SVN working copy try an ’svn up’ command, this should restore the two directories if they have been deleted on installation say.

              Ok, using SVN at the command line you need to go to your web area and run the following command :

              ’svn co http://svn.modxcms.com/svn/tattoo/tattoo/branches/xxxx’ where xxxx is either ’2.0’ or ’revolution’ depending on what you want(I’d suggest ’revolution’ initially i.e the stable branch).

              This will create a working copy of the revo code base, then follow the instructions in the doc link above to build and install it. From then on to get the latest updates you can just do an ’svn up’ in that directory.

              I don’t know what platform your on but there are also a number of GUI clients for SVN, Tortoise SVN is good on windows, there are numerous others for linux/macs .

                I’ve inserted the url

                http://svn.modxcms.com/svn/tattoo/tattoo/branches/revolution

                but I obtain this error:

                problem launching svn library
                make sure svn binary is present at path:
                /utenti/documenti

                is subversion client installed??

                Can you help me?

                  How did you install subversion? What platform are you on? It seems you can’t find the command.

                      sarah_77, if you’re not already experienced with Subversion, a source control tool widely used in development circles, then you really probably shouldn’t be trying to deploy Revo from SVN. I’d suggest working with the stable releases in the MODx Evolution version.
