[solved] Unable to edit home page - all that is there is one word: test

I have a MODx site which I am maintaining for someone who could not cope with it.

I have to make some alterations to the home page but when I click to edit it all I can see is one word:

test

If I change to HTML to edit, all that is there is test and it is the same with quick edit.

If I go to edit other pages I can see everything to edit.

I have the same site on localhost and that is the same.

The home page is displaying correctly on the internet.

It sounds like you are not actually editing the home page. Go to Tools | Configuration and check the site_start setting. That’s the ID of the real home page. Look for the page on the left of the MODx Manager with that number in parentheses.

Remember too that some of the things you see on the home page may be in the Template for that page.

I did not design site but I did add {{strap}}.

If I am right I believe that div id="intro" contains an image through style.css. So would I be right in thinking that the whole page is in the template?

If that is correct why am I seeing the word test?

I bet the former developer hid the homepage’s content inside its template.
It’s very usual to do that, to avoid unexpected alteration to the website’s main-gate, the homepage.
Check its template, you’ll see the real content of the homepage, and there is no [*content*] tag which to include the content-value into the page.

All other docs container: Yes

Can not see no [*content*] tag - but I will look again later today.

I took this on board at end of 2008 and have not done much with it. I need to learn more because changes are needed and I have another modx site on offer to maintain.

Recently I have been working with Wordpress and Thesis, after having my arm twisted, the little knowledge I had of modx was a great help.

I’ll start with an upgrade and get my signature in order similar to yours.

You’ll find everything in the ’Home Page’ template, then.

I understand now, you are right.

[*content*] is in all templates except the Home one.

What I thought was an odd change to the site is a complete overhaul of the Home page so I had better start reading.

I’ll start with Bob’s guide which I have seen before.
