Is there anything that you have to do differently to be able to play the different class’s to your text that you have set up in your CSS?
As the admin, do I need to go into the HTML of each page and insert the correct tags? Thanks.

MODx only process the content you created.
You will need to make sure your templates are connecting correctly with your external css. AN easy way of doing this is to use firefox, go to the page, view source, and then click on the link which loads your external css.
Your best bet is to look at the default templates including with MODx to reduce the learning curve.
go to "Tools" -> "Configuration" -> "Interface & Features" -> "CSS selectors:" and add your classes...then they’ll be available in your TinyMCE "styles". just mark your paragraph and select the desired class
