    Hi all,

I’ve been asked to make a new website for the school i work for. It has to come with a CMS, so teachers can login, and add/change texts and pictures themself on the website. The whole idea was to make it more dynamical.

I’m familiar with basic html, css and i even made a cms system in PHP before. But now some ppl say:"why bother coding CMS yourself, if others allrdy did the hard work for you".

So now i’m looking for a CMS that i can use with the website that i’ve drawn out in photoshop?
you can see an image on : http://img684.imageshack.us/img684/3433/mainmenug.jpg

I can slice the PSD to standard html/css, and i think i can even make it into a Template to use in MoDX.
But i’m not too sure about the rest.
How about the ’NEW’-list or the ’calendar’ you see left and right? Is there a module i can install in MoDX, so users can add dates with events and a picture, and the you know what... Or will i have to program this myself anyways?

And what about the FAQ-list like i made at the bottom?

The rest of the site is just standard text with some pictures, nothing too fancy.

Basicly i was wondering of i should work with an opensource CMS like MoDX. Or do you think its quicker if i just make the CMS with PHP myself?

Thanks for any advice or help.

    Kind regards,
    John.

      Hello,

MODx isn’t going to limit you in any way, if it can be done without MODx it can be done with MODx. The menu can be done with Wayfinder, logins with Weblogin or WebloginPE, the calendar can be done one of several ways so it’s personal preference. News and such can be done with Ditto along with the calendar if desired.

If you know how to code stuff like this you can really take advantage of MODx as it’s a more a framework for you to build on as desired.

Oh, don’t be afraid to ask questions in your native language or in in the native language areas of the forums.

You should be able to port your existing code to MODx. You’ll probably want to convert your menus to Wayfinder, but the rest of the code can probably be used just by moving it into snippets.
