I have both Revolution and Evolution installed in different directories and I am trying to make an image gallery work with a lightbox effect.
I am very new to anything except static html pages.
I have MaxiGallery loaded for the evolution site (www.worldwidemediaconcepts.com/modx) & Gallery loaded on Revolution (www.worldwidemediaconcepts.com/_modx)
I have no clue as to how to get it work. does anyone know of any clear cut tutorial on either one for a very inexperienced newb? any help would be appreciated.

Gallery and MaxiGallery will allow you to generate whatever HTML structure your "lightgallery" javascript of choice requires. As far as the actual javascript you use, that’s another matter. There are probably hundreds of them, and their requirements all vary.
The point is, choose the one you want to use, get it working with a hard-coded page, then set up the appropriate tpl for Gallery or MaxiGallery to generate the same HTML.
