There is an editor out there I’m quite comfortable with and therefore I would like to recommend. "Komodo Edit" It’s the small brother of Komodo IDE, but it is free.

Teaming komodo up with the famous "it’s all text" firefox plugin, I can send the content of any textfield or input field directly to komodo for further modification. Hitting safe will automatically update the form content and I have just to hit "save" in firefox to send it to the database.

Features: It has all things I would expect from an editor and then some more...

    Syntax highlighting
    Tooltips
    Autocomplete,
    Browserpreview
    etc.

For a complete list, have a look at: http://www.activestate.com/komodo_edit/features/

    Komodo Snippets

One of the nicest things about it is the ability to define snippets and call them either with a particular combination of keystrokes or by clicking on them in the "toolbox" (on the right side).

There is even a kind of api you can use to create "dynamic snippets":

    <a href="[[%w:orask:URI]]" name="[[%ask:Name]]" target="[[%ask:Target:_self]]">[[%w:orask:Text]]</a>

Will create a dialogbox asking you for url, name, target and linkname attributes.

Depending on your ambitions, you could create a snippet that helps you to write a wayfinder call or a wayfinder template. If you have to do it more than once, just prepare a snippet to do it for you.

Attached you will find a snippet collection (work in progress) with common codeblocks you might find useful in modx development.

Note: I had to rename this package to modx.zip so I could upload it to the forum. To use it, you have to give it it’s original extension modx.kpz. To install it, go to "toolbox" -> "import package" and choose it from it’s location. That’s it.

I’ll start with codeblocks to MODx javascript ressources, paths to important directories and a collection of attributes and codeblocks for wayfinder development. I’ll update the collection with a collection of usable TV and api related codeblocks. (If there is someone here with a similar collection or other tips and tricks, please share yozur wisdom)

There are also a lot of VERY useful extensions for komodo edit which add interesting features to this already powerful workhorse (autobackup, remote filetrees, html workbench, etc). I’ll elaborate about them, if there is some public demand to do so...

    Regards,

    pepebe

    Edit:

The wayfinder related parameter snippets have been frankensteined from the appendix of "The complete Guide to Creating Menus in MODx using Wayfinder" by Kongondo (http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,34176.0.html). The template snippets have been frankeinsteined from http://www.muddydogpaws.com/development/wayfinder/parameters.html.

In the next version there will be some links to wayfinder related ressources included.

BTW, there is a list of cssPLay navigations templates at muddydowpaws. I migth be wrong, but as far as I know, most of them are not "free". Seriously consider to send over a few bucks, if you are using his work for commercial projects.

Some updates to the komodo/MODx snippet collection. Download komodoSnippetsForMODxV2.zip above and rename it to komodoSnippetsForMODxV2.kpf

Have a look at the screenshots to get an idea what is now included:

For seasoned MODx veterans most of the included snippets will be to primitive, nevertheless I think they might come in handy from time to time.
