MODx Editors' Guide

Just wanted to let you all know that I’ve written some instructions for basic users of MODx, which can be seen (and downloaded) at www.matthewdawkins.co.uk/modx-editors-guide.html.

The rationale behind this is that many of the clients I deal with are non-technical people, and simply referring them to the central MODx documentation isn’t actually all that helpful - it goes into far too much detail for them. So I started writing out step-by-step instructions for some of my clients, guiding them through the tasks they are actually going to be interested in. This is from a simple content management point of view, completely leaving out the design and technical management side of things. In the end I’d written so many versions of these instructions that I figured I’d just put it all into one guide that I can refer all my clients to. It’s not the definitive guide, by any means, but it’s aimed at non-technical people who want to just know how to edit the content of the web sites I’ve made for them.

Feel free to send the link to your own clients if you think it’s appropriate and useful. And being a web page I can update it easily, so if you have any suggestions on how it can be made even easier then do let me know!

I would like to mention that I went to your personal web site with Firefox to read your documentation. After seeing that you used transparency in your sub-menu, which I also did for my last client, I was curious to see if it worked as well in our corporate browser (IE6) with which I had to fight with in order to have transparency. Unfortunately, this prehistoric browser (which still represent 25% of all browsers ) in addition to not render the transparency, completely destroy the look & feel of your menu, placing the Home menu in the middle and the other options below (and invisible). You need to move the mouse down from the ’home’ menu in order to see them.

You suggested resizing pictures to about 300x200. I would suggest dimensions that have a 4x3 ratio, like 320x240 or 240x180.
