During install, I’d like to check the "install demo content" box, but have my own custom content instead of the demo content that ships with Modx.

Would I just replace the "setup.data.sql" file in the current install folder with my own database, but keeping the file name the same?

I’m thinking I could create a basic framework of pages like the demo content, but tailor it to my own needs.

What do you think? Will this work?

I don’t see any reason why that wouldn’t work.

You might want to look into MODx Revolution, though, which allows you to create Transport Packages for installing custom content. I think that might be much easier to maintain than a raw SQL file.

Revolution is still in beta but is very stable and the RC1 release should be out before too long.
