Looking for a Partner

Your mileage on a shared server depends entirely with whom you share the server. You have absolutely no control over who your neighbors are. Sometimes you get good neighbors, but it only takes a single bad one to ruin the neighborhood.

Not to mix metaphors here, but I tell my clients the difference between a dedicated and shared server is a lot like a private versus public bus. Either may get you to your destination, but our private bus is faster, safer and more reliable.

I think the hosting company keep an eye on the server and make sure that no one is hogging resources and if necessary move users to other servers if they are getting overloaded. They also periodically upgrade the machines. It has all worked pretty well so far and saves me the bother of having to manage a server so I can get on with developing sites. The down side is you do lose some control because they disable some PHP functionality ie system calls, but I seem to be managing without so far.

With my dedicated servers I have unlimited disk space, bandwidth, traffic, everything unlimited. So my sites are always super fast.
Not meaning to be a hog but I can download every CMS, file, anything I want without having to worry about being a server hog.

Unfortunately, I’m a student for most of the year and the web is just something I love to mess with so I wouldn’t necessarily be perfect for what you were asking...

However, I do love that you work for nice agencies and the such, and as a graphic designer I’d love to help you design layouts, etc. for your sites if you’re interested in that at all. And as a student, I’m not asking for much pay and really more focusing on expanding my portfolio...
