I’d like to drop ie8 support as well. It’s a 2003 2009 browser and in these days most of the browsers have a new release almost every year.

IE8 was released in 2009.

And for dropping support for browsers like ie6/7 really depends on the project you are working on. Graceful degradation is the way to go.

And, IE9 doesnt have text-shadow and gradients as of RC release. Pretty bad really.

I like your idea in principle, as I detest IE, but personally, that’s too fast for me. Admittedly, I move slower than cutting-edge people... I’m just now starting to ignore IE6, so you can take my thought with a pinch of salt.

I’m still showing 10% or more of visitors using IE 6 across most of the sites I run. I’ve been using one of those javascript emulators for visitors < IE8 for a while, but that’s more compensating for my relative lack of CSS ninja skills, rather than a business decision. What I find funny is the number of devs who will insist on all accessibility features, and supporting a near-non-existent Linux userbase (in most consumer markets, at least), but then decide not to support IE.

As others have said, it really depends on your market (and your client).

Have you tried using the Revo manager on an iPhone yet? Wouldn’t occur to me in a million years, but it was the first thing one of my clients did. No dice.

It really depends on your consumer base.. on my personal sites IE6 is down to a mere 2%-ish so as long as it’s somewhat usable I don’t really mind them anymore.

I always try to communicate clearly with clients what to and what not to support though.

This is going to be a necessity. Of all the sites I visit regularly, only one didn’t work on my iPod Touch and it’s been fixed. I often read the forums on the iPod before i get out of bed (around noon ). I can see using an iPhone (or, more likely , an iPad) to do minor updates, correct typos, change typos, set TVs, activate users, and publish or unpublish pages on a site.

The Evo Manager seems to work (though it’s a pain with no right-click capability), but I can confirm that it’s definitely no go with the Revo Manager. You can log in and perform some operations but editing a resource is impossible. The content disappers completely after you type a few characters.

I was thinking of working on a mobile manager with basic functionality (creating and editing resources and chunks, checking messages and the feeds) after I get VersionX to a stable release (1.0-pl)...

Was hoping to be able of starting with that around now, but due to time constraints and VersionX needing more work than I imagined that’s been delayed and I hope to be able of start writing code somewhere near the end of March...
