Well, when you’re logged in to a server via ssh, you might want lcd, which means "local change directory", and will change you to the specified directory on your local machine.

It’s always for changing directories, but will take various forms. For example:
cd .. (go to the directory above the one you're in)
cd ~ (go to your user/home directory)
cd - (go to the directory you were in before the current one -- new to me)
Now I know what you mean.
