.htaccess folder redirect being weird

Hi everyone,

not 100% sure if this is in the correct area, but im trying to redirect a whole folder to a new folder (just moved the content) via a htaccess file.

I have:
Redirect 301 /divesites/middleeast/egypt http://www.surfacewatch.com/divesites/africa/egypt

And that works to a degree, but it ads in some weird stuff in the url and therefore displays a 404 error. e.g:
http://www.surfacewatch.com/divesites/middleeast/egypt/shaab-rahma.html
redirects to
http://www.surfacewatch.com/divesites/africa/egypt/shaab-rahma.html?q=divesites/middleeast/egypt/shaab-rahma.html

Can anyone help with this?

You could try adding a ? like this:

Redirect 301 /divesites/middleeast/egypt http://www.surfacewatch.com/divesites/africa/egypt?

This works when using a RewriteRule, but I’m not sure about Redirect. If it doesn’t work, go with a RewriteRule instead.

nope that doesnt work im afraid.

Can you give me an example of a working rewrite rule? i’ve tried the following but it doesnt work:
RewriteRule ^divesites/middleeast/egypt /divesites/africa/egypt [L,R=301]

basically, all iwant to do is rewrite all files from /divesites/middleeast/egypt to /divesites/africa/egypt

Maybe something like this:

placed BEFORE the usual rewrites. I don’t think you need the [L], so then later rewrites will direct to the correct page.
