    First post so be gentle.

I just started with ModX and love it! So much more design friendly.

Is there a feature in Modx or an add on that will allow my client as an editor to save their page for review before saving the changes and making it live.

Specifically my client said they wanted to be able make changes to a page... and have it available for other internal people to review (from another computer) before the page is live.

I have worked with Adobe Contribute that had this feature but not sure with Modx or if there is a logical work around.

    Thanks in advance

When your client creates the page, click on the Settings tab and make sure "Published" is unchecked. this will ensure the doc is not published when he saves it.

Alternatively, under Tools->Configuration, make sure "Published default" is set to "No" so that the resources are not published by default. Does this sound like what you’re after?

Looks to me as if making pages unpublished won’t meet the requirement, one that is being put not for the first time. What’s wanted is a way to preview an update to a published page without replacing the live page - so the existing version continues to be available to visitors until the replacement has been checked and approved. Hence two pages have to exist - the original, and the proposed revision. The latter has to be editable by the editor and reviewable and publishable by the authorizer, and look to them as if it had already been published in place of the original page.

As I see it there are three ways round this: some kind of clever switcheroo to be installed in MODx; a staging server; or a local copy for updating that is uploaded to the live server. I don’t know much about staging servers, so that’s probably the right answer!

I have been testing Modx and SilverStripe for a project. Both have pluses and minuses, though I believe Modx has more pluses.

The area in which SilverStripe has a benefit over Modx is the ability to edit content in draft and have it reviewed in a staging mode before sending to publish. SilverStripe does this by using two tables, one which holds all metadata and content for staging and one for the live site. You perform all editing in and save in the staging table. You preview content from the staging table. When you publish to live, the data is copied from the staging table to the draft table.

Not only would I love to see a preview of draft content exist in Modx, but something both systems lack is the ability to view draft content using templates and css specific to staging. If I want to make a change to my template, I may want to view the template changes in several pages in staging before moving the template and css changes to live.

So if the Modx team is considering a future Modx version with staging and live, I would allow for the staging to use a separate stagining template and css.
