Lot’s of people I trust swear by the Eclipse package. When I tried it, I wasn’t crazy about the UI although I probably didn’t spend enough time with it to be fair.
My main fear with it was the necessity of keeping multiple Open-Source packages updated and working with each other. I’ve had enough trouble with XAMPP to make me reluctant to put me into a similar situation with the editor I live in every day. As a result, I coughed up the $$ for PhpED a long time ago and it’s turning out to be a trivial amount when amortized over the years.
I did look at NetBeans and was impressed with how it’s coming along. I expect that it will be a serious contender before long.

The last time I had played or installed Netbeans is when I was working for IBM which was years ago. And granted it looks great and nice. I havent started any php development/coding on it yet. But will do so - and see how it feels/works. I also installed Eclipse to also get a feel and will probably try one of the two and see which one would fit my comfort zone.
Thanks to everyone who posted a response to this. You guys have been truly helpful and I have to admit this is by far one of the most helpful development communities I have come across.
