Subversion 101

Can somebody enlighten me as to how one populates a new branch from the existing trunk of a subversion repository?

Just use the SVN copy command from the revision/branch you’d like and go. Which client are you using?

I’m using svnx; a bit more Google searching after I posted and I found the answer. I’m setting up a branch in the googlecode repository for WebLoginPE; I’m doing some extensive work on it and figured I might as well make it easier for whomever it concerns to review my modifications.

Ok, I’ve got my branch set up, and checked out the files from my branch. Now I’ve updated a bunch of the files in my local repository; do I "refresh" or "commit"? I’m afraid to "commit" for fear I’ll be overwriting the trunk. Or will "commit" only upload my changed files to the location I checked out from?

If you’re working locally on your checked-out branch, then committing the changes will update that specific branch in the SVN repository (not the trunk)

The command ’svn info’ will tell you the URL that your working copy is coming from (and where it will sync too). There is probably a context menu option for it in your program.

Even if you do mess up, you can roll back to a previous version.
