Thanks for your review. I’m not advanced enough with the workings of modx to know what all I’m missing from the book, just that I’m missing it.

At this forum post I said this which basically agrees with your experience. I think modx would really benefit from a design patterns kind of book that goes through different ways of building things, explaining the pros and cons, advantages for different uses. Make it read like Dan Cederholm’s Bulletproof Web Design and you have a winner.
