    Hello Modx champions,

Can anyone assist me (or direct me in the right direction) on how to move my Modx site from one hosting provider to another.

I am not concerned about the movement of the domain, but on how to export and import the site onto the new hosting provider without destroying my site.

Any help I can get would be great appreciated.

    Regards,

    Sam

I copy the files from one server to the other, change the config file (manager/includes/config.inc.php) (DB Settings), export the DB using PHPmyAdmin and then import on the other host.

Login like normal and go to the tools > configuration > file manager and change those paths accordingly. Clear the site cache and you should be good to go.

Thank you for your response AMDBuilder.

So when you say copy, do you been backup? I have moved Joomla and Wordpress sites by exporting/importing data. Is there such a thing with Modx?

        Thanks again,

        Sam

I use sFTP/FTP to download from server A and upload to server B. If you have shell access you can likely do a direct server to server copy of the files.

There is a built in backup tool which will allow you to backup the database, but not the files. If you want the files and DB there is an addon (modx backup?) that will do this for you.

I also keep regular cpanel backups of my sites, but I don’t use those for moving sites.
