Is it possible to strip out blocks of text using PHP from a variable?

I’m going to have an issue once I start displaying the mobile versions of the news posts. They will have large images and YouTube embeds for some of them, which isn’t good.

Is there a way to search for text starting with [[ and ending with ]], then remove all text inbetween that? I could extend that elsewhere if it’s possible.

Use a plugin on the system event OnWebPagePrerender and do a preg_replace on the $modx->documentOutput to replace anything between [[]]

$pattern = ’/[[(.*)]]/Usi’;
$modx->documentOutput = preg_replace($pattern,’’,$modx->documentOutput);

If you wanted to remove the [[]] as well then a simple str_replace would do it

$patterns = array(’[[’,’]]’);
$modx->documentOutput = str_replace($patterns,’’,$modx->documentOutput);

Had to do it non-MODx since other sites would be using this, so right now it’s just using a display:none div. Although I should get somewhat of a speed boost using preg_replace.

Just a quick note the iPod/iPhone works fine with youtube feeds... Large images can take a bit to download, but why not just do thumbnails and then a lightbox for bigger?

I can probably try fixing around the code after E3 2009 is over (all I’m doing is grabbing different user agent strings). Once I do that, would you be able to check to see how it works on it? I don’t have one to test it on.
