Resig on keeping developers on board

One thing that I’ve learned while managing jQuery it’s that there’s a huge potential to lose users in between projects. A developer ends a project and then re-evaluates his tool chain to see if any improvements can be made. Every time a user finishes a project there’s a possibility that they’ll leave for another tool - it’s our job to make sure that we consistently provide the best tool and experience possible so that the need doesn’t arise (better documentation, better code, frequent releases, etc.).

Seems true to me. Seems every project I re-evaluate and update my toolbox. I’ve got a decent amount of things I use for most sites now (when needed)
- Superfish + wayfinder (http://users.tpg.com.au/j_birch/plugins/superfish/)
- eForm
- managermanager
- Some other frontend/backend plugins (like SEO Friendly, phx)
- Cycle plugin (http://malsup.com/jquery/cycle/)
- Gallery module/snippet
- flowplayer + blip.tv (for videos)
- custom modxUser functions
- custom eForm -> modx document functions (used with eForm events)
- Google Calendar

I feel the need to move on when finished with a project. This is specially so if it was a long project, when it is finished I can’t wait to move on to a new one and work on something with different challenges. But I like to use the same tools since that is my ’bag of tricks’ I carry along wherever i go.

I have been building my toolbox to make deploying a new project easy, it really helps. It would be cool to have a project toolset builder like projectdeploy.org where we can select what libraries / plugins to include.
