Simple Multi File Uploader

Hey,

I could use some help on a project. I need to provide a simple method for non computer savvy users to upload pictures to a site. They just need to be stored in a temporary directory until they can be approved and added to the main gallery (massive 10,000+ image zenphoto gallery).

Anyways I haven’t been having much luck finding a decent solution that’s in a "stable" state. The one thing I found was this: http://digitarald.de/project/fancyupload/

It looks to be a very promising system, but people report issues getting it working with flash 10 and there is no documentation so I don’t really know how to get this thing working.

The solution needs to work on a linux/php server without requiring any unusual plugings (flash/javascript is fine) and can’t be a ton of browse boxes. A drag and drop or multi file select upload system is needed. And naturally there is no budget for this

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great!

I can’t say that I saw any references to the jquery options. I guess my night just got a little longer and hopefully tomorrow will be one project fewer

I’m still open to other suggestions in the mean time.

I checked out the different options and while they are very promising the one problem is I need to allow users to select say 20 images at once (dialog box) where those solutions limited me to 1 file at a time and background uploading or progress notification.

I need multi file selection (jpg/zip limit) and a progress bar with some information such as speed and/or ETA.

We are trying to provide a simple system that people can use to send us pictures instead of having them in 50+ places such as photobucket, but the trick is it’s got to be simple and work with loads of files.

I wonder if you could make MaxiGallery do what you want. It defaults to allowing 10 uploaded pictures, but you can change that with &upload_field_count. It’s certainly a convenient upload form and I think you can customize it with a tpl chunk.

I though about using maxigallery, but the problem is you need to manually add each image which wouldn’t cut it for most of the people I am targeting. Could you see yourself doing one at a time for 30-60 pictures? The only problems with the first options are I don’t know php/js enough to get that working and people appear to have issues with flash 10 support (granted it works on their site)... If someone could get that one working it would be outstanding! I only seek a "better" solution as I lack the skills to get that working.

I think that if you want bulk selection of files you might need to use Flash. I don’t know that I’ve seen that particular feature using just Javascript. Granted there’s a lot that I haven’t seen...

I wouldn’t worry too much about Flash 10 issues, especially since there seems to be a fix for that already. I’m using Flash 10 in Firefox (Linux), and it worked for me. Flash 11 will be out soon enough to break everything anyway, so you may as well wait on worrying.

I’d give that example a try if those are the features that you’re looking for, since it doesn’t look too difficult to get working to me (you just need a snippet that grabs the uploads from $_FILES[’Filedata’]; more info here.)

I think I might have found the perfect solution! I stumbled across this one: http://www.nasuploader.com/ the only complaint I have is it’s all in french and I only speak three languages (english, html, and css) so I guess I have some google translating to do, but if all goes well problem solved Now if only they would do an english translation.....

There is always something new to break existing sites, but I need this to work for 9/10 at the moment and I will worry about 11 when it hits the shelfs.
